ABSTRACT
Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) is a member of the herpesvirus family. The mature particle is approximately 1800 A in diameter and consists of a linear double-stranded DNA molecule center core surrounded by an icosahedral capsid and a lipid envelope. The capsid is composed of 162 elongated hexagonal prisms, called capsomeres.
