ABSTRACT

There is a continuous stream of security-related bug reports permeating the news these days. With all the noise, it is difficult to spot the core issue, let alone to keep one’s eye on it. The simple questions of what one trusts and why one trusts it are often ignored. Moreover, the need to define both inter-and ultra-infrastructure trust relationships is often overlooked. The core question of what trust is and its importance is usually forgotten altogether. Security is a matter of trust. This chapter explores the nature of trust and trust relationships, and discusses how one can use trust to build a secure infrastructure.
