ABSTRACT
The genome is the alternative name now given to the nucleus of the mammalian cell. It is the principal repository of the genetic code and is well endowed with mechanisms for detecting any damage to it and for repairing itself if it gets damaged. The mapping out of the human genetic code will make it much easier to identify which sequences are encoded for a specific protein.
