ABSTRACT

Most teachers of pathology start by defining pathology as a science of disease. Very good, but what is science. The word science is derived from the Latin word scire to learn, to know, and is applied to the acquisition of knowledge. This process involves a number of logical steps, which can be formulated as:

1 statement of the problem; 2 generation of a hypothesis; 3 observation and experimentation; 4 results and interpretation; and 5 conclusion.
