ABSTRACT

Recently, considerable attention has been focused on the development of piezoelectric sensors for the diagnostic determination of biological analytes (e.g., enzymes, hormones, antibodies/antigens), which are based on the change of resonance frequency of piezoelectric crystal with the change of mass loaded on the crystal [1-5]. A specific binding between antibody and antigen has been exploited in piezoelectric immunosensors constructed by immobilizing antibody to the crystal surface, which then interacts very selectively with the antigen requiring detection in the medium [6-13]. The sensing layer of the immunosensor is prepared by immobilizing antibody molecules on the surface of the piezoelectric crystal by physical or chemical means.
