ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION Over the last two decades there has been a steady increase in the use of psychotropics in children for various psychiatric disorders. Previously, usage was limited to psychostimulants and antipsychotics for conditions such as attention deficit disorder and childhood psychoses. However, in recent years, depressive and anxiety disorders have been diagnosed in children and adolescents more frequently and pharmacological treatment with various antidepressants and anxiolytics has become more acceptable. The increasing use of these medications has also necessitated more awareness of various side effects of these drugs.
