ABSTRACT

Staphylokinase (Sak), a bacterial profibrinolytic agent, readily available by recombinant DNA

technology, is a 136-amino-acid, single-chained polypeptide, with a unique structure and

mechanism of action and of fibrin specificity. Preclinical investigations disclosed attractive

characteristics, including high-thrombolytic potency, also toward platelet-rich thrombi and fibrin

specificity in human plasma.
