ABSTRACT

Since the first vascular anastamoses were constructed by Carrel,[1] it has been known that injured arteries respond with a pathologic healing process that can lead to luminal narrowing. The advances in vascular surgery and endovascular techniques over the past half century have greatly expanded the number of arterial lesions that can be treated. Unfortunately, the occurrence of restenosis is still one of the most important factors preventing acceptable long-term patency.
