ABSTRACT
The region of Central Asia (CA), encompassing Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan (Figure 1), has undergone tremendous economic and social perturbations following the dissolution of the former Soviet Union. The economies shrunk thus causing fall-off of incomes, increase of poverty and a major concern for food security.
