ABSTRACT

Seventy percent of the rural communities in the Philippines largely depend on agriculture sector. Thus, food security and poverty alleviation programs are related to livelihood opportunities that focus on agri-related economic activities. The dilemma facing the development workers and practitioners nowadays is the growing competition of use of resources between extensive and intensive agricultural activities (including animal production, use of chemicals and modern inputs) and its resulting negative externalities that pose threat to the environment and people’s health.
