ABSTRACT

In recent years, an increased interest has been clearly demonstrated for design and construction on low bearing capacity soils, principally in low lands where many construction projects are conducted on soft alluvial clays, land reclaimed with dredged materials, highly organic soils, etc. In order to cope with such difficult subsoil conditions, various types of ground improvement methods have largely evolved in the last decades as described by Van Impe W.F. (1989, 1997).
