ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: This paper presents a simple bounding surface plasticity model that is suited to describe the stress-strain behaviour of both unsaturated clays and unsaturated sands. The model is presented in a critical state framework using the concept of effective stress. The versatility of the model is highlighted by its ability to simulate using single sets of suction independent material parameters: (1) the stress-strain behaviour of unsaturated speswhite kaolin subject to three load paths; and (2) the stress-strain behaviour of an unsaturated quartz sand subject to two load paths.
