ABSTRACT
The environmental impact of a given mineral industry depends upon the geologic setting, genesis and mode of occurrence of the mineral deposit, which in turn determines how the mineral is to be mined, and processed and how the wastes are to be disposed. This concept can be illustrated with two examples.
