ABSTRACT

Perspectives on heart failure management differ, particularly comparing those between primary and secondary care. Similarly, typical patients in the community with heart failure differ in various respects compared with those in most clinical trials. The emphasis in clinical research has been mainly on identifying better therapies for advanced disease. There is a need to adopt a broader management strategy, and to combine more vigorous preventive measures with wider application of improvements in diagnostic methods and treatment in the community, for the benefit of all eligible patients. There is potentially much to be gained from more effective application of the diagnostic and treatment measures currently available.1
