ABSTRACT

Lung cancer is one of the common malignant tumors, and its incidence has been increasing in recent years (Zhang et al. 2011). Owing to longer operative incision and greater surgical injury in conventional open thoracotomy, Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) has some advantages including smaller incision, less blood loss and ideal recovery in patients with lung cancer. However, there are only a few reports on VATS applied to elderly patients with lung cancer (Wang et al. 2014, Yang et al. 2013). This study compares the effects of VATS and open thoracotomy applied to elderly patients with lung cancer.
