ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an application of the computer-aided diagnosis of pneumoconiosis for chest X-ray images obtained from a Charge-Coupled Device (CCD) scanner for chest X-ray Carlsberg Ridge (CR) images. It describes the performance of the system for chest X-ray images obtained by a CCD scanner. The chapter examines the system can be interactively applied to the CR images. In order to enhance cost-performance of Computer-Aided Diagnosis (CAD) for pneumoconiosis, a CAD system for pneumoconiosis using images obtained from a common CCD scanner is reported. If the system can be applied to either of chest CR images and chest X-ray images obtained from CCD scanner, the system is useful in the diagnosis for either of them at a low cost. In the CAD system for pneumoconiosis X-ray images scanned by a CCD scanner, abnormalities of pneumoconiosis are measured by extracting characteristics of the density distribution in rib areas.
