ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: The main goal of this paper is to assess the impact of the global economic crisis of 2008/2009 on the national competitiveness of Central and Eastern European countries. The paper will use the indices of national competitiveness published in the Global Competitiveness Report and World Competitiveness Yearbook to assess the state of competitiveness in the individual countries. The paper will primarily focus on the new EU member states from Central and Eastern Europe, as national competitiveness is a key factor of economic development for them. The last part of the paper will try to provide policy implications for the governments of the countries analyzed.
