ABSTRACT

The rock mass is suffered from tectonic movement for a long time, the particular geological environment including stress field, seepage field, affect the physics mechanics properties before the excavation (Zhang & Jia 2001). Engineering practice shows that initial geostress of rock mass is the basic information for the surrounding rock stability and design of supporting structure. The accuracy of initial geostress data plays an important role in engineering design and safety in construction. However, in the engineering field, due to the limitation of measurement technique, the measured geostress could only show the local stress in most cases, its reliability, precision and disperse are in question. Moreover, high cost of labor and equipment, long term monitoring make availability not meet the requirement of design and numerical computation. Therefore, to get the initial geostress of engineering field, it is necessary to study and calculate a large scale of rock mass.
