ABSTRACT

A large amount of land, which is to be reclamated, has been discarded by factories and mines ever since mankind has entered the industrial society due to rapid industrial development, sharp increase of the population, extensive economic development and the irrational industrial structure, as well as the notion of “attaching importance to land development but neglecting its reclamation” in the early days. Globally, abandoned land is universally highlighted by vague bases or conditions, which makes it more difficult to deal with issues regarding legislation, funds, management and technology of reclamation. It is, therefore, of particular significance for China to make improvements in work relating to abandoned land reclamation via learning from the advanced experience of other countries in this area based on our own situations and problems concerned.
