ABSTRACT
The cultural image is the fruit of historical and cultural development of a nation. The connotative meanings of the same image in Chinese and English idioms may also be different because of the discrepancies between Chinese and western cultures in aesthetic values, environments of living, customs, religious beliefs, fables, myths or literary works.
