ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: On the basis of a planar array modulation collimator, a multilayer array modulation collimator is proposed for intensity-modulated radiotherapy. The target area is constructed by multilayer arrays of rectangle modules, which support more flexible adjustments of dose distribution. The structure and operation principle of the collimator is introduced in detail. The combination of this equipment with standard modern linear accelerators and multileaf collimator will be an ideal method to improve boundary conformity and reduce penumbra and dose leakage. The hardware is also compatible with most commercial Monte Carlo-based treatment planning systems.
