ABSTRACT
This quotation from Jean Dethier, taken from his introduction to the catalogue for the exhibition Des Architectures de Terre ou l’Avenir d’une Tradition Millénaire [Earthen Architecture or the Future of a Thousand-Year-Old Tradition], illustrates how the return to the tradition was a way of giving a response to the situation as it was experienced in the latter half of the 20th century, providing a great impulse for a generation that sought solutions to modern-day problems to look to the past.
