ABSTRACT

According to ArRyadh City Web Site (2014) Addir’iyah is a settlement located on Wadi Hanifah to the northwest of Arriyadh (Al-Rashid 1999, 220), covering an area of about 10 square kilometers. Figure 1 shows the location of Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. The historical precinct of Addir’iyah covers about 6 square kilometers of that area along the Wadi Hanifah, and comprises a group of settlements spread among date palm farms and vegetable gardens. As a whole, the Historical Precinct of Addir’iyah, within its historical boundaries, is one of the most important national heritage sites of Saudi Arabia as for many years since it was the capital of the first Saudi State (King 1998, 156). Wadi Hanifah is the most prominent feature of Addir’iyah. It is also an important geographic element and topographic natural formation within the Najd region. Its natural features, rich fertile soil and water combined with land formation suitable for settlement attracted many tribes throughout centuries (ArRiyadh City Web Site 2014).
