ABSTRACT

Competition is very important for markets. More competitions will result in higher quality products against lower prices (Besanko et al. 2007). The level of competition is determined by the power actors have in the market. Among other things, market power can be generated by the access to a certain technology (Belleflamme & Peitz, 2010). DG Enterprise and Industry (2014) builds on this idea by stating that “Europe needs to exploit the role of ICTs as a motor for innovation, competitiveness and growth”. They argue that ICT and eBusiness has the potential to boost overall competitiveness and efficiency of organisations. Furthermore, they observe that SMEs – accounting for 99% of all European Enterprises (DG Enterprise and Industry, 2014) – suffer the most from a limited understanding of ICT and its potential.
