ABSTRACT

In some cases the semi-probabilistic components are incorporated in those regulations. The main disadvantage of those methods is that they do take into account the fixed set of scenarios of an accident. It means the safety assessment of ships in abnormal/damage conditions concerns considering the flooding of single compartments, groups consisting of two watertight compartments, groups consisting of three watertight compartments, etc. The next disadvantage associated with application of those methods regards the problem that using those methods in case of certain types of ships e.g. car-carriers, ro-ro vessels or passenger ships may lead to insufficient level of safety or provide unnecessary design or operational restrictions.
