ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: The chlorinated substances in Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) will produce hydrogen chloride (HCl) gas during combustion. The HCl gas is not only harmful to human health, but corrodes furnace and boiler tube. In this study, quick lime (CaO) was added to RDF that will be incinerated to produce HCl and the influence of CaO in generation of HCl was investigated. During experiments, CaO added RDFwas incinerated in the tube furnace and the contained in flue gas was measured by titration. The titration according toASTM: E 776-87, StandardTest Method for Forms of Chlorine in Refuse-Derived Fuel. The results of the experiment about HCl emissions during RDF combustion showed that CaO can be control the HCl emissions. The removal efficiency of the HCl using CaO addition was approximately 60%–70%.
