ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: Hydrodynamic study on Shuangjian Shoal protection structures in Fujiang Shoal reach was completed by river regime analysis and physical river models. The river regime analysis indicates Shuangjian Shoal is located in bifurcated reach, siltation and erosion of sand body with shoal head movement is vital to riverbed variation of branches and channel stabilization. In view of river regime, flood control, and influence on ambient areas, the “Y” shape protection structures will improve navigation conditions of existing channel, which is suggested in preliminary study. The flow over flat is reduced and sand ditch is silted and blocked after construction of the protection structures leading Shuanjian Shoal and river regime to be stable, which helps to set the routine of 12.5 m deepwater channel and carry out following regulation works.
