ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: The paper investigated the effect of non-zero fixed pitch angle of blade on the performances of vertical axis wind rotor with three straight blade. Two-dimensional numerical study, unsteady k-ω model with sliding grid technology were used to simulate aerodynamic characteristics of wind rotors in different fixed pitch angle of blade. The research results show that, the positive fixed pitch angle get bigger, torque of upstream circle is decreased significantly, torque of downstream circle is increased while in a very limited narrow zone; when negative pitch angle is increased, torque of upstream circle is increased in a wide zone; torque of downstream circle is decreased in a small zone. Results suggest that the rotor should be designed with a -3 or -6 degree negative fixed pitch angle for promoting performance.
