ABSTRACT
As one of the superior dam types, an increasing number of high rockfill dams with core walls have been or will be built on thick overburden foundations (Wang, et al., 2005), including Pubugou, Xiao langdi, Shiziping, Bikou, Nuozadu, Shuangjiangkou, etc. There are many engineering problems that should be resolved if a high rockfill dam is determined to be appropriate on a thick overburden foundation (Wang, et al., 2001). Among these problems, the maximum deformation and deformation compatibility of the dam are some of most critical issues (Bi, et al., 2013), which deserve much attention.
