ABSTRACT: The water volume and water quality of Poyang lake determine the water safety for the watershed of Poyang lake and the area of the middle and lower part of Changjiang river, as Poyang lake adjusts the flood of Changjiang river. The flow pattern and water surface level change influence water quality, transport of sediment, soil erosion and biodiversity etc. In this paper, EFDC (Environmental Fluid Dynamics Code) is used to simulate the hydrodynamics of Poyang lake. It is shown that EFDC can be adapted to the situation of high frequent change of water surface level and can be chosen as a useful tool for the future prediction of water resource and management of Poyang lake.
