ABSTRACT

The basic hydration equation for cement hydration can be described in the following Eq. (1), which was originally created by Tomosawa [3]:

d dt

C r

k r D

r D k

α ρ

α α

×

⎛ ⎝⎜

⎞ ⎠⎟ + −( ) + ( )

( )v w+

where α = hydration degree of cement particle; v = stoichiometric ratio by the mass of water to mineral; w = physically bound water; ρc = density of cement; kd = reaction coefficient in a dormant period; r0 = radius of cement particles; De = effective diffusion coefficient of water; kr = coefficient of reaction rate for each mineral component; and Cw∞ = abundance concentration of water at the outer region of gel.
