ABSTRACT

Up to now, many researchers have focused on offline detection of vehicle load rather than real-time on-line analysis. M. Niedzwiecki applied the adaptive filter algorithm to axle load scales [1][2]; Guo LY and Zhou ZF et al focused on the study of resistance strain axle load scales [3][4]. All of them were used in the vehicle over-limit inspection stations. Chen GH developed a real-time monitoring system for the overload of vehicle base on paste-type strain sensor [5]. However, it could be used only for light truck and had relatively complicated structure and higher cost, so it had small value in practical application. To begin with the relevant background of automotive theory, vehicle suspension is the bearing component of sprung-mass and its main function is to transfer the force and moment between tires and frame to ease the vibration and shock caused by road roughness. To study the dynamic detection method for vehicle load, the dynamic performances of suspension under different operating conditions were simulated. On the basis of the analysis of results, a device to real-time detect the load of moving vehicle was proposed [6] and tested.
