ABSTRACT
In 1991, aerobic granular sludge was first reported by Mishillla who used the aerobic upflow sludge blanket (AUSB) to cultivate it. Aerobic granule is a selfimmobilized form produced spontaneously among microbial cells in aerobic condition, which has a good settleability, a high biomass, and also a favorable bioactivity to degrade high-concentration organic wastewater even with a high volumetric load. And the researches of aerobic granular sludge were based on those of anaerobic granular sludge.
