ABSTRACT

As the battlefield is highly dependent on information, the dismounted soldier will carry a wide range of electronic equipment such as tactical radios, global positioning system (GPS) receivers, and other enduser devices (EDU) (Thampan, T. et al. 2014), which presents a challenge to the power supply. It is estimated that the average power demand is about 45 W (Moore, J.M. et al. 2002). We consider designing a portable hybrid power system that harvests energy from the nature, thereby increasing the mission duration of the soldier. The system includes three power sources: solar panels, wind turbine, and battery bank.
