ABSTRACT

With the development of society and economy, the issue of heavy metal contamination is becoming increasingly prominent. In contaminated soil ecosystem, bioavailability of heavy metal not only depends on its concentration and form in the soil, but also its sorption capacity from solid phase to liquid phase as well as the species and content of organic compounds, especially soluble organic ligands. Low-molecularweight organic acids (LMWOAs), ubiquitous in the soil, are a class of organic ligands that play a critical role in controlling metal solubility, toxicity, and pollution of food chain having an impact on the migration and transformation of heavy metals and the validity of heavy metals on plants and environmental toxicity [1,2].
