ABSTRACT

The application of Solar Hybrid Desiccant System offer major improvements in humidity control and overall efficiency (energy saving) when compared to the usual practice of utilizing a specially designed cooling coil in combination with reheat. Previous research on similar applications show positive results. Mathur [3] analyzed the performance enhancement of an existing 5-ton (17.7 kW) air conditioning system with an air-toair two phase natural circulation heat recovery loop heat exchanger by simulation. It was found that the two-phase heat recovery loop would pay for itself in less than a year. Worek and Moon [4] have modeled the performance of a desiccant integrated hybrid vapour air conditioning system. The waste heat rejected from a vapour air conditioning cycle is utilized to activate a solid desiccant dehumidification cycle directly. The performance

Malaysia is a hot and humid country. Due to the high humidity, it is recommended that tropical HVAC systems is installed with components for dehumidification enhancement in Air-Conditioning Equipment. Desiccant is widely used nowadays for moisture removal through adsorption/absorption. Desiccant materials normally used are silica gel, molecular sieve(s), activated alumina and metal silicates. Moisture is one of the basic important factors other than temperature, air motion and air cleanliness for comfort.
