ABSTRACT

US Department of Transportation has recommended to conduct comprehensive research on climate change impacts on transportation (Frankel 2002). It is necessary to predict the pavement performances due to global warming in addition with the regular pavement deteriorations. This prediction will help the local agencies such as DOTs’ to take necessary actions or plans for pavement management and maintenance. For an example, a pavement might require early maintenance or major rehabilitation due to additional deterioration caused by temperature rise. Very few studies have been performed considering global warming effects on pavements (Santero & Horvath 2009, Li et al. 2011, 2012). Decrease in pavement performance due to temperature rise has not been evaluated yet. This study will provide preliminary idea regarding temperature increase effects on pavement performance. Since climate change is a complex phenomenon and there are several components related to this phenomenon, global warming is selected to conduct this study.
