ABSTRACT

The commonly available machines for friction evaluation in the road industry take into account only some aspects of the problem described above. The British Pendulum Tester is characterized by a sliding speed of 10 km/h that it is quite low compared with the normal traffic speed. In the Dynamic Friction Tester (Saito et al, 2007) and the Wehner Schulze machine (Do et al., 2000) small pads rotate on the surface with a tangential speed varying from 0 up to respectively 90-100 km/h but pressure can’t be varied and it is quite low in comparison to traffic pressure levels.
