ABSTRACT

Determination of failure-free period length of bridge operational use or its durability is crucial to assure sustainable development of traffic infrastructure. The bridge structure and its equipment loose initial features during exploitation time. Drop of them could not influenced behaviour of the structure or particular elements until they reach “minimal acceptable level”. Contrary to widespread opinions, knowledge about that matter is still more intuitional than approved by examinations results. From time to time, in Poland, there are published elaborates, which treat the problem partially, i.e. they consider only fatigue strength or exploitation strength. There are also available results of research on bridge durability, considered as a function of corrosion processes.
