ABSTRACT

In fact, the Ban for Free Plastic Bags is an environmental behavior. In a broader sense, environmental behaviors refer to specific behaviors influencing the quality of ecological environment. They can bring positive and negative impacts. In general, environmental behaviors tend to be positive according to the current literature. They have the subjective initiative while environment pollution usually doesn’t. From this perspective, it’s necessary to analyze the influence caused by the ban itself in order to truly understand the effect of its implementation. The analysis was launched based on the perspective of awareness and influence [3]. The ban’s impacts on environment can be material influences coming from specific behaviors or effects on human motivation and awareness

In foreign countries, studies on impacts of environmental behaviors are relatively mature. They mainly investigate the effects generated by a specific behavior in the actual environment. Such research includes the recovery of related resources, energy

1 OVERVIEW OF IMPLEMENTATION OF THE BAN FOR FREE PLASTIC BAGS

In 2008, the central government of China issued a notice about restricting the use of plastic bags in production and sales, which is called the Ban for Free Plastic Bags in daily life. Generally, this ban is to limit using common types of plastic bagsthey’re difficult to be degraded in a relatively natural environment. Massive landfill of plastic bags can cause soil compaction. And incineration may result in the release of chemical substances toxic to humans-benzene chemicals and dioxin. In recycling, cleaning plastic bags may lead to water pollution. What’s more, producing the raw material of plastic bags, plastic, has a large consumption: threefold amount of oil will be consumed for every 1 ton of plastic. And oil resources are very precious [1].
