ABSTRACT

The hurdle race was origin in 17 and 18 century. The English shepherd cross the fences those are used to control the sheep. This activity became the hurdle race gradually. The first hurdle race began in 1860. Up to now, there is a unified standard of the hurdles in the hurdle race of track and field. The structure of the hurdle should be metal or other suitable materials. The cross bar of the hurdle can be wood or other suitable materials. The hurdle is combined with the base and two sticks and becomes a rectangle holder. There is one or more cross bar are used to strengthen the fix of the holder’s base. Once the upper cross bar of the hurdle is pushed by the 3.6 kg stuff, the hurdle may fall. The height of the hurdles can be adjusted for different competition purpose. Because the power to push down the hurdle is about 3.6 kg and no heavier than 4 kg, no matter the hurdle is high or low. Therefore, the design of the hurdle’s center of gravity should be adjustable. The width of the hurdle should be 1.18 to 1.20 m. The maximum length

track, the height, weight, quality and looks of the hurdles affect the hurdle race teaching. The paper [2] described that, in the teaching of hurdle cross, besides the subject elements those make the students feel fear, the objective elements are one of the reason that cause students feel fear. The paper [3] described that the teenagers usually appear fear while learning hurdle cross and become the metal barriers that cause the student can’t learn the hurdle cross skills. The paper [4] described that while teaching in the Middle School, in order to help the students complete the hurdle cross movements, the metal elements, the body elements and the sport skills should be combined together. In addition, the paper [5] described that the fear of hurdle create the students’ negative feelings in the teaching process. Due to the influence of the metal element of the fear of hurdle, the students appear nervous, strange skill and can’t complete the movements. Furthermore, the paper [6] described that, in the hurdle race competition, the human body is required to cross the standard height.
