ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: Lianyungang Harbor is located on the western coast of Yellow Sea, China. Since the 1960s, a series of research including field observations and laboratory experiments, have been carried out to investigate tidal current motions, wave propagations and sediment properties around the harbor. It is important for manager, engineer and designer to understand the channel siltation along the channel during storm events. For prediction of channel siltation, a 3D numerical model of cohesive fine-grained sediment transport based on the coupling of modified FVCOM model, WRF model and SWAN model is developed to investigate the sediment transport. It is shown from simulated results that the sedimentation in the channel was well simulated in typhoon events, and the high sediment concentration near sea bed for muddy coast during storm process can also be basically reflected by the model.
