ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the ISACOAST-CC (isobaric adiabatic compressed air energy storage – combined cycle) concept. The idea of the ISACOAST-CC concept is to design a compressed air energy storage plant with highest efficiency that can be used as a conventional gas and steam turbine cycle power plant when the compressed air and heat storages are empty. In Section 14.1 the ISACOAST-CC concept is described. In Section 14.2, the models for the main components used to simulate such CAES-plants are presented together with simple test calculations for the cavern, heat storage, compressor and gas turbine. In Section 14.3, example simulation results of the whole cycle are shown and Section 14.4 provides conclusions.
