ABSTRACT

In this work, attention is dedicated to the buckling analysis of simply supported glass panels subjected to interacting in-plane compressive and edgewise shear loads. This multiple loading condition is quite frequent in structural applications of plates composed of various construction materials. Nevertheless, due to combination of geometrical and mechanical aspects, it is rather difficult to be correctly described. In the specific case of glass panels, various contributions can be found in literature. Luible (2004) and Englhardt (2007, 2008), for example, studied the buckling response of simply supported glass panels subjected to in-plane uniaxial compression. Wellershoff (2006) and Mocibob (2008), similarly, focused on the shear buckling of glass plates linearly supported along the four edges or restrained along two edges only, respectively.
