ABSTRACT

Prior to the studies developed by Branemark (1) and Schroeder (2), there were no surgical protocols that could avoid the protein denaturation and the necrosis of many osteoblasts. That event forced the inflammatory response to take the fibrotic pathway (3). So, osteointegration was thought to be an impossible achievement. The development of surgical protocols had the ability to influence the inflammatory reaction towards tissue regeneration. The last decades had shown that the oral rehabilitation with osteointegrated implants is a valuable alternative, with high and predictable success rates (4).
