ABSTRACT
Data base systems are used frequently in many knowledge fields. For example, the Civil Engineering Database (CEDB) of American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), or data bases of other organizations, provides access to bibliographic records of publications. Data records are usually distributed over several storage units (like disks) in order to improve the response performance for queries.
