ABSTRACT

The proposed approach relies on approximate closedform expressions of the mean-value and power spectral density (PSD) function of the stationary response obtained by applying the so-called rational series expansion (RSE) (Muscolino & Sofi 2012). Direct differentiation of these expressions with respect to the uncertain parameters allows to determine the sensitivities of response statistics in closed-form. Sensitivity information may be exploited to improve the computational efficiency of the RSE by eliminating the series terms associated to the design parameters whose variation has negligible influence on the response.
