Bergermann & Weinrebe 2010 point out, that the cost for the tower will be around 25% of the total investment costs for a SUPP and also, that “tower costs may vary from one location to another due to availability of steel, cement or aggregates.” And so the big differences in published cost estimations are remarkable. Almost all estimations come without further breakdown of the amount and without transparent approaches. So they could not be revised academically. Looking at too optimistic assumptions used for calculating levelized electricity costs, Krätzig is citated by Bonelle 2012 with the words that making such mistakes in assumptions “illustrated the ‘dangers of wishful thinking’.”
