ABSTRACT

The thickness of most of the footings was set to 0.45 m, whereas four specimens were tested with a higher slab thickness of 0.65 m to investigate the punching behavior of thick footings. For two specimens the longitudinal reinforcement ratio was reduced to 0.30%. One footing was produced with a concrete compression strength fc,cyl = 35 N/mm2 and two other footings had a concrete compression strength fc,cyl = 50 N/mm2. Besides the punching behavior of footings without shear reinforcement it was examined how shear reinforcement affects the punching shear capacity of thick footings. Therefore, a number of five specimens were equipped with shear reinforcement and constructed structurally identical to the reference test series without shear reinforcement. The shear reinforcement ratio was high enough to reach the maximum punching shear capacity.
