ABSTRACT

In this paper, modal characteristics – based damage detection is addressed considering a simple repeating structure. Modal vectors, slope and curvature are utilized to compare the effectiveness of MAC for damage identification. Different mistuning levels and patterns are also considered in addition to the varying crack depth and location along the length of the blade. Damage index, based on mode shapes tracking due to increasing damage severity, is correlated to the crack depths and is compared for modal vectors, slope and curvature.
